SUMMER LUNCH for children & teens 2023

3,297 meals were served during the past 8 weeks of Summer Lunch at St. Mark's!  That works out to an average of 82 meals a day and is 60% more than we served last year.  It was greatly appreciated by the community, and we received so many expressions of thanks each day we served.

While this ministry is hosted and largely funded by St. Mark's, we also have a community of supporters!  In addition to the annual budget for the program, donations also came from individual church members, friends of St. Mark's, and area Episcopalians. We also received $3800 from the Blood Foundation this year.

We had an amazing crew of volunteers, 36 in all, who came once or twice to help when needed or who worked multiple times every week.  They prepared food in the kitchen, packed up lunches and served lunches out the side door.
Many thanks go out to our 2023 volunteers:

Pat & Larry Allen, Cindy Avery, Nancy Bachman, Elaina Blake, Janice Cooper, Gail Dedman, Jim & Leslie DeLooze, RoseAnn Donahue, Terri Ernst, Susan Firestine, Dawn Folts, Marjorie & Jim Fulmer, Brenda Iburi, Sara & Anna Kent, Kate Klaiber, Priscilla Lapp, Lily O’Gee, Carm O’Geen; Jessica & Tom Shelby, Finn & Eddie; Kellie Stein, Lucas & Matthew; Lilly Stein, Sara Weaver; Sandra & Sean Whiting, Jane & Ethan; Randa Williams

Special thanks go to Jessica Shelby, who in addition to setting up menus, ordering food, instructing volunteers, spent many hours transporting literally hundreds of pounds of milk and food between the school freezers and Save a Lot and the church!  We appreciate the assistance we received for purchasing and storing food through the LeRoy Central School cafeteria and for the milk ordering and storage from LeRoy's Save a Lot.

USED INK CARTRIDGES - Protecting God's creation

Keep ink cartridges out of landfills!  About 350 million used cartridges end up in landfills each year. Instead, bring them to St. Mark's!  There's a collection box outside the door on Church St. as well as a larger bin inside the side door (office hours are M-Th 7:00 am to noon; Sundays 9:00-11:45).  Sorry--we can't take toner cartridges.  The cartridges are sent in each month for recycling and re-use.

Stained Glass Window Project

St. Mark's window repair started in the summer of 2021 and will be completely finished in August 2023.  Much work was done--both planned and "found" as the project went along.  St. Mark's is hosting a walk-around tour of the windows, including down on the creekbank, on Sunday, September 17 at 11:30 am.  You're invited for refreshments, a slide show and an "inside" tour.

The Daily News published this article about the ongoing work.

And here's an article detailing the $10,000 Sacred Sites grant being awarded to St. Mark's from the New York Landmarks Conservancy:The Batavian - St. Mark's Church in LeRoy

OUR DIOCESE

Our diocese is actually made up of two dioceses (The Episcopal Dioceses of Western New York & Northwest Pennsylvania) which are on a journey to discover how collaborating can help us transform our congregations and communities through the power of Jesus Christ. In our churches, everyone is welcome, without exception.
